Our Story

The Lakeview Story began with a vision of a young woman named Sarah Radke.  After attending a half dozen Free Methodist evangelistic meetings, she felt God’s call to start a Free Methodist Mission in Saskatoon.  Stepping out in faith, she rented an empty storefront in the Smith Block of Broadway Avenue.  Others heard God’s call for reaching the lost in Saskatoon and the ministry quickly outgrew its humble beginnings, making a lasting impact on Saskatoon and the surrounding community.

In the late 1920’s, God called His church to construct a new building on the corner of Eastlake Avenue and Main Street.  The growing congregation worshipped in this facility from 1923 to 1964.

A new building, Greystone Heights Free Methodist Church, became the home of the congregation in 1964 and served the needs of a growing church.  As Greystone Heights changed from a small community church to a larger regional church, God’s call was clear and the congregation continued to respond to His leadership in their lives.

The decision to build Lakeview Free Methodist Church in 1981 was a large step of faith.  Weekly attendance was about 150 people but the vision was cast for a church that would reach and have an impact on all of Saskatoon.  In 1981 we moved to the Lakeview location on Kingsmere Blvd.  With a sanctuary that seated 450 people and large number of multi-purpose rooms, this building served its family well.

Eventually, it became clear that our congregation was outgrowing the Kingsmere location.  The sanctuary began to feel uncomfortably full and seats were hard to find.  By September 22, 2004 the official congregational vote to build our current facility had been passed, and the long process of purchasing land and constructing our current facility began.  After two years of preparation, we moved into our new church home in June of 2006.
